The Grand Piano is a timeless instrument: a favourite playground of the most diverse musical spheres for more than 300 years, and an arena of highly specialised expertise. But today, laptop artists and DJs - with the endless possibilities for sound generation their technology allows - invent the sonic frameworks of our time. So is the piano now an anachronism? Absolutely not, says Prof. Ralf Schmid, who reveals the reinvention of the piano in the digital age, and explains how to organically unite instrumental virtuosity and electronic music performance through flow and motion.

Hybrid Music Lab is a project organized by the Berlin Music Commission - the Berlin music industry’s main network and carried out on behalf of the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises as part of the Berlin state initiative "Projekt Zukunft" and funded by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund).
