The Government of Georgia will host the 5th OGP Global Summit in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 17-19, 2018. The Summit will provide an excellent opportunity for leaders from OGP’s 76 participating countries, local governments, and beyond to exchange ideas on how they are making their governments more transparent, accountable, and responsive to citizens.
At the core of the relationship between citizens and the state are decisions about how public resources are raised and spent, and the results achieved. The budget is where the most important questions about the role of government are asked and answered. In countries where a significant portion of that budget also comes from external actors such as major international donors, the level of transparency of these organisations and their finance flows is also crucial. Greater levels of transparency are essential to ensure that public resources are being spent effectively and contribute to development outcomes.
Based on the findings of the latest Open Budget Survey and Aid Transparency Index, the event will provide a practical sharing of the challenges and opportunities identified by governments, donors and civil society organisations to connect aid and budget transparency with development planning, spending and outcomes. It will help identify implications and concrete next steps for the development of national strategies, action plans and partnerships.
This fishbowl event will feature speakers from government, civil society and donor organisations sharing good practices, experience and lessons learnt of promoting aid and budget transparency for development outcomes.
