One hundred years ago, the great influenza pandemic killed between 5-10% of the world’s population. This panel will use the historical plagues to examine SF’s fascination with hypothetical ones, found in such works as Station Eleven, The Stand, and 12 Monkeys. We will also discuss what, if anything, might be done about forthcoming pandemics.
