Through this workshop I want people to recognise that the current state-based and self-regulatory approaches to governing the sharing economy are inadequate for ensuring that networked monopolies operate in the best interests of society. However, as consumers and workers of these networked monopolies we have the power to influence how these networked monopolies are conducted and maintained. This interactive workshop will help attendees understand the history of the sharing economy within the context of the wider economy, so that they can begin to draw parallels between the two and recognise reoccurring problems, identify patterns of (de)regulation, and re-think the sector’s regulatory solutions.

I lead the RSA's work on the sharing economy. I'm really interested in how we can move towards a 'fairer' sharing economy, particularly through addressing emerging monopoly power in the sector.
