This session will explore Linux IMA, an open source trusted computing component with three main goals: integrity, authenticity and confidentiality. Linux IMA is a component of the kernel’s integrity subsystem, which has support for detecting files that have been accidentally or maliciously altered. IMA operates on local files, appraising a file’s characteristics against a “known-good” value, thus enforcing local file integrity. These features are complementary to Mandatory Access Control (MAC) protections provided by LSM modules such as SELinux and SMACK.
