Camping! Night Hikes! S'mores! Stargazing! Morning Joe (literally)! Morning Yoga!
We'll be spending the first night of OutdoorFest under the stars. Head out to camp in Staten Island with us.
Before sunset we'll be setting up campsites, doing tent set-up demos, and meeting our camping crew for the night. Special guests the Amateur Astronomers Association will be joining us with telescopes and close up views of Saturn!
Watch (or run) the 5k trail run, cook, make s'mores, look at the stars and sleep outside to kick off your NYC Summer.
****FINAL WEEK BONUS: REGISTER FOR THE CAMPOUT AND GET 1 FREE SPOT IN THE 5K TRAIL RUN (just shoot us an email at contact@outdoorfest.com once you register for camping and we'll enroll you in the run!)
Saturday morning: group yoga (you do not need to register for yoga - it's included!)
GEAR: You can rent all of your gear IN NYC! Check out REI, Gear to Go Outfitters, Traverse Outfitters and Tent & Trails. Here's a quick guide of what to bring.
Check it off your bucket list: Camping in New York City is an experience you'll be talking about all summer. 18+ only.
A few notes:
Transportation:
OvR will be doing a shuttle from the Staten Island ferry to the campsite! This will be first come, first serve. The ferry takes about 30 minutes and the shuttle will be about 20 minutes - so please plan accordingly. The OvR bus will pick up from the Staten Island Ferry (on the SI side) at 7:15, 8:10, 9:20. You will walk out and look for a large white bus that says OvR on it!
There is also an MTA bus option.
Arrival/Check-in:
Henry Kauffman Camp grounds - there is a main entrance across the street from the Susan E. Wagner High School. You will enter through the parking lot and walk up a gentle incline past a lake on your right. We'll have check-in there!
Bring:
Any camping supplies (tent, sleeping bad, sleeping bag, headlamp etc.) you'll need including those to cook meals (stove, pots, food). There will be a clean water supply + bathrooms for everyone to use. Please note: to limit our impact there will be designated cooking areas.
We will have ground coffee - if you have a french press bring it along!
Location: Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Staten Island.
