Emerging from the spiritual renaissance of 16th century Safed, Rabbi Moshe Cordovero's Tomer Devorah (Date Palm of Devorah) became an instant classic of Jewish thought and spirituality. Steeped in the Kabbalistic tradition, Rabbi Cordovero took the unprecedented step of applying mysticism to traditional Jewish ethics (mussar). This presentation will focus on the glorious first chapter of Tomer Devorah, which analyzes 13 different strategies for forgiving others (and yourself). Note: this particular work, with its emphasis on personal moral development, is considered an exception to the ban on the study of Kabbalah by students under the age of 40, and is widely read across the Jewish spectrum.
