Debridement for removal of dead, damaged or infected tissue will be discussed, including common and uncommon indications. Analysis of each method of debridement, including the risks and drawbacks, will be provided and techniques for office-based, bedside, and intra-operative debridement will be reviewed through patient cases. Novel methods of larval debridement will be highlighted.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Review various debridement options and techniques
• Review available literature of larval therapy in wound debridement
• Analyze modern data on the larval debridement and its advantages in treating wounds as alternatives to antibiotics
