This presentation will provide examples of strategies for educators that inervene with individuals who demonstrate challenging and confrontational behavior that could escalate into a potentail moment of crisis. In such a moment, staff can either escalate or de-escalate the situation. The safest restraints are those you learn how to avoid. Understanding preventive strategies to create an environment to de-escalate a student in crisis is the first step toward making your classrooms both physically and emotionally safer places for learning. Learn to control what you can control: your attitude, your approach, the climate and learning environment within your classroom. The session will highlight examples of proactive strategies from CPI's Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training program, and the Time to Teach! Position staff to best prepare for the next possible difficult or confrontational situation.
